Watermelon is full of antioxidants. It's a great source of vitamin C and vitamin A. It has a lot of beta-carotene. Watermelon also has a lot of the antioxidant, lycopene.

These antioxidants neutralize the free radicals that damage the cells. Free radicals oxidise cholesterol and make it stick inside blood vessels. Therefore watermelon can be helpful in lowering cholesterol.

The vitamin C and beta-carotene in watermelon also prevents other problems caused by free radicals.  Vitamin C and beta-carotene have been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease, reduce the symptoms of asthma, reduce the risk of colon cancer, and help with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

In one cup of watermelon there is 24.3% of the recommended daily allowance of Vitaman C and 11.1% of Vitamin A.

In addition to its healthful benefits, watermelon is sweet and delicious. Nothing says summer like a big slice of watermelon!
