Why Was The Government In Germany In 1919 Called The Weimar Republic?

Answer Question

The Weimar Republic was named after the city of Weimar. It is the name often given to the republic that governed Germany from 1919 to 1933. A national assembly met in Weimar to produce a new constitution following the old German Empire's abolition after Germany's defeat in World War I. Before this there had been attempts to create an absolute monarchy but Tthis had never emerged and the plans had led to a year of turmoil, rioting and bloodshed within the country.

The first President of the Weimar Republic was Friedrich Ebert. He was succeeded by Paul von Hindenburg. Adolf Hitler followed Hindenburg into power in 1934.

The Weimar Republic had two currencies. The Papiermark from 1919 to 1923 which had originally been instated in 1914, after the war, and the Reichsmark from 1924-1933.

Von hindenburg was honoured by the Nazi party by the naming of the famous zeppelin - The Hindenburg. This crashed during landing in 1937.
