    Can Nerve Damage Affect Concentration?

I fell a couple of years ago and cracked a rib in my right side. I had problems ever since with pain and a burning sensation in my side which spreads to the left side. I am off work yet again as the pain makes it very hard for me to concentrate - I work in an office. This is having a detrimental effect on my wellbeing. Could this be nerve damage?

Very doubtful the pain you are having is from a "cracked rib "i've had badly broken and in about 8 weeks most of the pain was gone...there are probably some other issues causing your problem.   have you been checked for and ulser ?   from that experience, i found out how ulser pain can travel...over your shoulder, all around your mid-section and even to your back...almost like a too tight waist band and suspenders...a lot of side aches...see your internal medicine doctor and don't take aspirin or for that matter any meds that could upset your stomach...see your doctor in any case...in case it is an ulser...stay away from milk and dairy products.   watch what you eat and see if the pain is worse when you eat certain foods...anyway,,,,,see your doctor, a good one.

2cabins thanks for advice, it could well be an ulcer but surely an ultrasound would pick that up? I have already had an ultrasound on my kidneys, liver and everything was fine, had a colonoscopy and it was OK, also had a laparoscopy and nothing unusual there. I was back at the doc this week and am being sent for another ultrasound on my womb and pelvic area to be on the safe side. Doc reckons it is something to do with my bowel, pressure on it causing the pain. The pain is worse when I am sitting down, so a new career is needed!!

Yes if you damaged a rib you could have done nerve damage but is not too likely. Your ribs are attached to your spine and depending which rib, you could have something out of place where a major nerve comes out of the spine, but again unlikely. I am unfamiliar with the ulcer pain 2cabins talked about but sounds like a decent theory and excellent advice. Go see a doctor, it is not from your rib.

Could very easily be nerve damage. Your affected concentration is more than likely caused by the chronic pain whether there is nerve damage or not.
