Why Do Dogs Wag Their Tails?
Answers
Dogs wag their tale for several reasons which can be determined by observing their body language. Contrary to popular belief a wagging tail does not always indicate that a dog is friendly though in most cases it is true.
Often a dog wagging its tail stiffly indicates a dog that is feeling unsure about the situation and may bite if provoked or approached threateningly. Even a dog that appears timid and is wagging its tail is indicating that it would like to retreat from the situation and should be allowed to do so.
A typically friendly dog will wag not only its tail but also its entire hindquarters and one can easily tell from its body language that it is neither aggressive nor cowering. Often the sight of food also causes a dog to wag its tail and is a sign conveying that the dog is hungry. A dog also wags its tail to show its friendliness or submissiveness when approached by other dogs.
