The crystal clear and sparkling waters of the Caribbean attract a lot of tourists who are interested in fishing and sailing. The most easterly of the Caribbean Islands, Barbados has a thriving fishing industry. Big fish like Kingfisher, Tuna, Barracuda and Marlin are found in plenty. To catch a kingfisher the best option is to charter a boat. The boats are well equipped and the crew knows where to locate the big fish and is also well trained.
To catch a kingfisher the correct tackling equipment is as important as the bait. Although a kingfisher will eat any bait that wriggles, it prefers yellowtail, squid, slimy mackerel or flying fish. Strongly wriggling bait attracts the kingfisher and big bait serves to keep small unwanted fish away. The tackling equipment should run smoothly and be strong. It is an art to hook the bait carefully so that the metal hook is not visible and once the bait is bitten the kingfisher should not be able to escape.
Once the bait is hooked properly, the line is dropped in the deep sea. If there are no hits, the distance can be varied. As soon as the line goes rigid, it is an indication that the fish is hooked. The sense of achievement in reeling in a 30 pound fish is tremendous and needs a lot of expertise and strength. Once the struggling kingfisher lands on the deck, the hook is removed along with the bait.
