What Is An International Merchant Account?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

An international merchant account enables a web site to sell online in well over 100 different currencies, giving retailers and customers flexibility and convenience. Since customers are placing their order in their own currency in real time by credit card, there are no additional currency exchange fees for either the customer or the business. The price customers see is the price they pay, and no one is penalised because they have chosen to pay in Euros, Yen or Australian dollars.

Furthermore, international merchant account holders can specify which currency they wish transactions to be settled in, i.e. which currency is ultimately paid into their account. Payments accepted in Yen could be paid into your account in Yen US dollars or UK sterling, whichever is your preference.

Secondly and importantly, international merchant accounts are as closely tied in with all the major credit card companies as a single currency merchant account.
