Clueless is a comedy film that was released in 1995. The film is a modern version of Jane's Austin's “Emma.

“Clueless” is an entertaining film that centres around a teenage girl named Cher who lives with her father in a mansion. Aged fifteen, soon to be sixteen, Cher is a popular girl. Her best friend is Dionne, who is equally popular and attends the same school as Cher. Unlike Cher, Dionne has a boyfriend, Murray, who she constantly argues with. Instead of having a boyfriend to argue with, Cher constantly fights with Josh, her ex-stepbrother, who accuses her of being superficial and vain and says that she is only interested in going to the mall.

Upon hearing Josh's opinion, Cher decides to play matchmaker for two teachers in her school who she believes are suited to each other, although her main goal is to make the teachers happy so that they will give her better grades for her report card. Her plan works and Cher discovers that she actually feels good for making her teachers happy and not just for gaining better grades.

Cher's happiness at her good deed leads to her helping a new girl at the school, Tai Frasier. Tai is introduced to everyone during a sports class. Whilst she is criticised for her poor taste in clothes by Cher's classmate, Amber, Cher thinks that Tai is adorable and that she looks “clueless”, leading to Cher wishing to help Tai to change her look. Cher and Dionne immediately befriend Tai and help her to become more popular. First, they help her to change her appearance. Afterwards, Cher points out that Tai is now more attractive to the boys in the school. When Cher discovers that there is a mutual attraction between Tai and a skateboarder named Travis, she tries to stop anything happening between them and tells Tai that a boy named Elton, who is extremely popular, would be a much better choice.

To get Tai and Elton together, Cher makes them sit together for a collection of photographs. She and Tai become excited when Dionne informs them that Elton has taped one of the pictures of Tai to his locker, indicating that is interested in her. Cher attends a party with Tai, where she continues to carry out her plan to get Elton and Tai together. After Tai is knocked out when someone throws their shoe, Elton helps her and Cher is pleased as she believes he is truly interested in Tai. However, at the end of the evening, Cher tries to get Elton to take Tai home in his car, but Elton seems against the idea and instead tells Cher that he wants her to be the one that he drives home. After a few moments of a confused Tai being moved between Elton and Cher, Cher eventually gets in the car with Elton. On the way home, it becomes clear that it is Cher that Elton is interested in and not Tai. He makes a move on her several times, but Cher rejects him and is left in the middle of nowhere when she gets out of his car and refuses to travel with him, causing him to drive off. Afterwards, she is mugged and has to ask Josh to come and collect her. Tai becomes upset at discovering that Elton is not interested in her and Cher and Dionne try to cheer her up.

Later, Cher is instantly attracted to a boy named Christian. They arrange a date and Dionne helps Cher to prepare. Things go wrong though, when Christian arrives and Cher accidentally burns the food that she placed in the oven beforehand. Cher spends the evening trying to make a subtle move on Christian, which results in her falling off the bed that they are sharing whilst watching a film. She then tells him that her feet are cold, hoping that he will make a move on her, but instead he simply covers them with a pillow and returns to watching to film. Cher cannot understand why Christian is not interested. All becomes clear the following day when Murray tells Cher that Christian is gay.

Cher immediately strikes up a friendship with Christian and one day, when they are shopping together, he saves Tai from a group of boys who jokingly try to push her from the mall's second floor. At this point, things start to go really wrong for Cher, as Tai's popularity begins to soar. Tai exaggerates her experience at the mall and once everyone hears about her “brush with death” they immediately crowd around her at school the next day and ignore Cher when she tries to contribute to the conversation. Even worse, she discovers that Dionne has recently lost her virginity to Murray after Cher, Murray and Dionne had a brush with death during one of Dionne's driving lessons, where Murray was helping Dionne to drive. The experience brought Dionne and Murray closer, which resulted in them sleeping together. As Tai herself is not a virgin she can relate to Dionne in that way, something that Cher cannot do. Tai's personality also changes and she snubs Travis, whom she was initially attracted to before her popularity increased.

Cher begins to feel left out and things get worse for her when she fails her driving test. She goes home and finds that Tai is outside the house flirting with Josh. She sadly informs them that she has failed her test and Tai follows her into the house and begins to burn a box of items that remind her of Elton, indicating that she has got over him. She then tells Cher that she is interested in Josh. Cher responds by telling Tai that she doesn't feel that Josh is quite right for her. This angers Tai, who critises Cher for being “a virgin that can't drive”. Hurt by Tai's words, Cher realises that her good deed of helping Tai become popular has resulted in her “creating a monster”.

Confused at why she is so bothered about Tai being interested in Josh, Cher goes shopping. During this shopping trip alone, she does much thinking and realises that she has fallen in love with Josh. From then on, she begins to act awkward around him. She continues to do good deeds at school and makes up with Tai, who is horrified at the way she treated Cher. Tai also becomes interested in Travis again, and this time Cher encourages her to get with him and the two go to watch Travis skateboarding.

Later, Cher becomes upset when she is criticised by someone who is working with her father. Cher, who previously helped her father with a few tasks for his job, made a mistake on one of the tasks and Cher is criticised by the man, who hints that she is more interested in the mall. Upset, Cher runs off and Josh, despite having criticised Cher for the same thing in the past, sticks up for her. He approaches her whilst she sits upset on the stairs and it soon becomes clear that he is attracted to her, just like she is to him. The two share a kiss and the film then moves onto the wedding of the two teachers that Cher did the matchmaking for.

Cher is happy that she has now found love and her friendships with Dionne and Tai are stronger than ever. Dionne is still with Murray and Tai is now in a relationship with Travis. The film ends with the three happy friends fighting over the bride's bouquet of flowers, which Cher catches.
