Although, New Zealand was very far away from the War zones and battle field of the First World War, still they pledged their support to the British. On the other hand, British needed soldiers and they even had to resort to conscription in Britain. Due to this pledge, the New Zealanders had to send their troops to honor their pledge. In addition to this, the Symbolic head of New Zealand is the British Monarch of the time so when King Harry V declared war, they also joined in. The Soldiers sailed from Wellington to fight the war in Egypt where they helped in defending the Suez Canal.
