What Is Squirrel Fishing?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Squirrel fishing is considered to be one of the newer sports in which the squirrel does not share the fate of a fish that has been hooked. It is a completely painless and harmless sport that involves luring a squirrel in with a peanut tied to a fishing line. The aim of the game is to lift the squirrel slowly into the air such that its feet are not touching the ground.

This sport requires a lot of patience and skill because if it is done too fast the squirrel will get alarmed and leave the string (it may even run away). However, if it is done too slowly, the squirrel will manage to flick the nut and make off with it. The "fisherman" will then have to hunt for new prey!

It is even tougher as most squirrels just tug at the peanut playfully. It is up to the fisherman to keep the squirrel interested at all times and to approach the moment of "fishing" with delicate caution. It is generally considered in good sportsmanship to reward the squirrel for his efforts by giving him the bait. Fishermen must make sure that they do not over-feed the squirrels.
