What Are The Risks Of Hair Transplant Surgery?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

If you go to a reputable surgeon in an accredited private hospital you are likely to take fewer risks. Most procedures go well and are safe, but in a small number of people, there can be problems. People are all different and the same procedure on one person's scalp may cause scarring and infection, whereas it can be done on another person without problems.

As in any surgical procedure, infection is always a risk as the skin of the scalp is broken. There is also a risk of bleeding and scarring. Wide scars, or "stretch-back" scars caused by tension can occur after scalp-reduction.

In all hair transplants, there is a risk that some of the grafts won't 'take'. Sometimes the skin plug dies and surgery has to be done again. Even if the plug stays in place, it can heal to form a bump. These are occasionally noticeable through the hair.
