Should I Get A Birthday Present For My Old Boss?
I'm friends with my old boss (who's married). We still work together but I got promoted so he's no longer my boss. His birthday is coming up and I know what he'd really like (it's not expensive but shows that I've put some thought into it) but don't know if it's appropriate to get him something or if my co-workers/his wife might think it's strange. I'm not very good with social niceties so would appreciate some help.

I would say, Always be on safer side that fulfill your requirement. You
can simply text or call him to greet him, If he invites you for any party, lunch or dinner, then you might take a gift for him. Otherwise just a call for greeting would be good If you suspect that people and his wife can take another meaning.
