Active directory: Active Directory manages and locates different resources and provides these resources available for authorizes users and groups. The main principle of the active directory is to treat everything as an object.

Four Types of log files are create by Active Directory.
    1. Transaction log files
    2. Check point log files
    3. Reserved log files
    4. Patch files.

Active directory has two primary components, logical and physical structures that manage the organization and communication of object and third component is schema that defines object for creating Active Directory.

    Active Directory partition:
To manage the large number of objects, forest is divided into domains and each domain controller can be a member of one domain. Same information is contained by the domain controller with in same domain and Same configuration and schema data is shared by domain comptroller from different domain. Distributing storage in this way is directory partition. Each directory partition contains the directory tree that contains the hierarchy of directory objects.

Each active directory domain controller contains the  following partition.
1)Configuration: having Configuration Container, which stores configuration object that is common to all domain trees and forest. Configuration container stores Address lists, Address and display templates, Administrative groups, Client access settings, Connections, Messaging records management, mobile, and UM mailbox policies, Global settings, E-mail address policies, System policies, Transport settings etc.
2)Schema: having schema container, which stores classes that define all types of objects and attributes that define all properties that can be used to describe objects that are available or can be created within active directory.
3)Domain: having domain container, which stores all objects within the tree. This container contains the information of Exchange system objects and information about the computers, users, and groups.

    Hierarchy of directory partition:
    First level: Root Directory
Second Level: Forest Root Domain Directory Partition
Third Level: 1) Configuration directory partition
             2) Domain directory partition
    Fourth Level: Schema directory partition
