How Many Series Of Fawlty Towers Were There?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Fawlty Towers first aired on 19 September 1975, on BBC 2. In total, there were two series. The second series was aired in 1979. There were twelve episodes in total (six in the first series and six in the second series).

The programme was successful and won three BAFTAs. It came first in the British Film Institute's 100 Greatest British Television Pogrammes, and fifth in the BBC's Britain's Best Sitcom. In a poll by Five in 2006, Basil Fawlty (played by John Cleese), was voted as Britain's Funniest Comedy Character.

The programme was based on a real life experience when John Cleese stayed at a hotel with the rest of his Monty Python team. The hotel owner was impolite (like Basil) and criticised Monty Python member Terry Gilliam for being American, which is similar to the episode in Fawlty Towers, where the American orders a Waldof Salad.
