The Gunpowder Plot was delineated by Guy Fawkes, a catholic gentleman who played his vital part in helping Robert Catesby to blow up King James 1 and his Parliament. The reason behind this venom and vengeance was because King James had failed to keep his promise of extending more tolerance towards the Catholics.
There were five main conspirators who were part of this plot, including Guy Fawkes himself. In 1605, the conspirators found a neighbouring cellar, which was on available for rent and which was just below the Palace of Westminster. Instantly they rented it and Fawkes was chosen to execute the explosion or more precisely the 'Gunpowder Plot'. He gathered at least twenty barrels of gunpowder in the cellar and covered them up with wood and coal.
Somehow because of the mistake of one conspirator, whose brother was in the House of Lords, the King somehow discovered about the surreptitious plot and had all the cellars searched. Sure enough, Guy Fawkes was discovered there with his gunpowder.
