Who Named New Zealand?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Abel Tasman named New Zealand after his Dutch hometown of Zeeland, meaning Sea land in english. So it became New Zealand meaning New Sealand. Similar to what happened with New York I guess.

Also, the Maoris call it Aotearoa.
