What Are Parvo Symptoms?

Answer Question

Well, Parvo is a contagious disease that has no cure. Though different vaccines are available now but even vaccinated dogs sometimes contract this fatal disease. Rodents and insects generally are the major cause of its spread but still this not 100 percent confirm. It is difficult for a dog to survive and it dies within 72 hours of its attack.

Large breeds of dogs are more susceptible to it. Puppies under six months of age are mainly its victims. An infected dog may show symptoms like vomiting, dehydration, lethargy, stress and fever. Severe attack of diarrhea is also a main symptom.

Parvo is a virus that attacks the lining of the intestines of unvaccinated puppies and young adult dogs.  This allows the bacteria from the intestines to get into the body causing a systemic infection (sepsis).  Signs include vomiting (sometimes bloody), bloody diarrhea, lethargy, anorexia, severe dehydration, systemic infection, and shock.  With aggressive hospital treatment (intravenous fluids, antibiotics, and supportive care) the prognosis is fair to good.  If you think your dog has parvo take it to a veterinarian immediately for testing and treatment.

Canine parvo virus (CPV) is highly contagious which affects dogs especially puppies. It is transferred through feces of infected dogs. Symptoms of parvo are vomiting, high fever, lethargy, loss of appetite, depression and diarrhea with or without blood. This condition immediately requires hospitalization to avoid dehydration. One type of parvo affect heart of the puppy with no diarrhea symptoms.  Puppy stop suckling and die. There are no treatment for this type of parvo infection.

Parvo is caused by a contagious virus called parvovirus. Parvovirus that infect dogs is called canine parvovirus. In cats, Parvo is caused by feline distemper virus. Disease caused by this virus in cats is called Feline panleukopenia. This virus is different from canine parvovirus.

Canine parvovirus attacks on the lymphoid tissue, intestine and
bone marrow of the affected dog. This virus is contagious and can cause diarrhea (sometimes bloody diarrhea), dehydration and vomiting.

Parvovirus is transmitted in healthy dogs through feces of infected dogs and contaminated objects. Treatment is done to control vomiting, diarrhea and dehydration. Vaccination against parvovirus is also available.

Feline parvovirus can affect gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system of cats. This virus can cause fetal death and abortion in the infected cats. Feline distemper virus is highly contagious and can be fatal if not treated on time. Its symptoms in cats are vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, fever, depression, weakness and loss of appetite. Diagnosis is by complete blood test, urine test, CSF test, and x-rays of chest, abdomen and some virus specific tests. No treatment is available. Only symptomatic treatments are option.

I have to puppies one 5 month old Lab and one 4 month old American Bull dog. They are best friends do everything together, one day my lab starts feeling sick didnt think anything of it until my bulldog starts getting sick too my lab the next day starts to get some energy back but not my bull dog he went down hill from there! I take him to the vet he is positive for Parvo they give me two options leave him there they would do everything they could to save him but only an 80% chance he would make it or put him down. Well i couldn't afford a $2000.00 vet bill but I wasn't giving up on my baby so I bought all the supplies I needed from the vet took him home! Took my Lab up there next and his test came back negative but I wasnt buying it, we were on the way home and he started getting sick too. So i started treating him for the same thing. It's been almost 48 hours since they were tested and we are not getting worse but im not giving up yet! They both have not eaten still but they are drinking and holding about 70% of what they take in by mouth! We are not out of the woods yet but Im not giving up it's in GOD's hands now im doing all  I can do!
