    A marine trumpet also known as the tromba marina, is a triangular bowed string instrument. This instrument was widely used in medieval renaissance period in Europe. This instrument was at the peak of its popularity during the 15th century it survived till the 18th century. The shape of the marina trumpet is that of a truncated cone which rests on a triangular base. The marine trumpet is usually four to seven feet long and is a monochord. The main body of the trumpet is three slats of wood which is joined to an elongated pyramid shape; it has a peg box at its apex. It has a body which contains three to six ribs and a frontal soundboard along with a distinguishable neck. In many cases the bottom end of the trumpet is open.
