How Can I Prime The Gas On A New Water Heater?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Break the union and listen for change in pitch as gas flows through or until you smell it. Wait five minutes after doing so and fan the area to dispurse the gas before trying to light. Use leak detector or water/soap solution to check for leaks. Also, once the pilot is lit check the pilot tube connection at the gas valve for leaks as well as the main burner tube while the main burner is on.

Make sure you bought the correct fuel type or have converted it to the correct fuel type before lighting.
