Why Was The Stimulus Taken Out Of My Tax Return.?

Answer Question

I don't know what you mean by "taken out of your tax return."  What tax return (what year?)?  It was a check separate from your refund.  Back taxes or some other obligation might have been paid using the stimulus money, but the money itself is not taxable as income.

I have the same question! I entered all my usual information into taxcut.com & was showing about the usual estimated return. And once I got to the screen asking about the stimulus check, I typed it in & it was subtracted from the estimated return. I'm not really understanding why this wasn't made clear last year. I would have opted to have that stimulus money with my yearly return. People count on those returns.

I also had the same problem, when I talked to the tax prep, people the told me the IRS is the one taking peoples money, I had thought I owed them, but like the lady said , we always file with the same company every year, and never had to pay the IRS.
