    Judi Dench is an extremely well-respected Oscar-winning English actress.

    She was born on the 9th December 1934 in York, North Yorkshire and carried out her professional drama training at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London.

    Dench is famous for her work on television, in film and on the stage.
    In film, she has received five Oscar nominations, for which she won 'Best Supporting Actress' for playing the character of Elizabeth I in 'Shakespeare in Love' even though she was only on-screen for approximately eight minutes.
    She also plays the part of M in a number of recent Bond films, most recently starring alongside Daniel Craig.

    In television, she appeared for ten years in British sitcom, 'As Time Goes By' with her friend Geoffrey Palmer. The series was also adapted for radio.

    On stage, Judi Dench still attracts an enormous following. She began her professional career on stage as the part of Ophelia in Hamlet in 1957. She joined the Royal Shakespeare company in 1961.

      Judi Dench is a famous British actress who is well known for television dramas in the UK, some comedy programmes and for her roles in international and Hollywood films, such as the latest James Bond Film, in which she played 'M'.

      She starred in the UK sitcom 'As time goes by' a few years ago and also 'A fine romance' with her husband Michael Williams, who sadly died of lung cancer in January 2001. Since his death, Dame Judi has carried on working and is now one of the most highly thought of British actors in the world arena.
