The town was earlier known as Bishop's Lynn and Lynn Regis, but local people call it simply Lynn. After Norwich and Great Yarmouth, King's Lynn is the third biggest city in the Norfolk County. Sandringham House, which is the Norfolk home of the Royal family, is situated approximately six miles north of King's Lynn. King's Lynn is positioned mainly on the eastern bank of the River Great Ouse.
