You can take college courses in graphic design, although a lot of employers are more interested in your portfolio - examples of work you've actually done. Whether or not you have a formal qualification, you will definitely need to be familiar with design programs such as QuarkExpress etc.

You can find out more at Learndirect, where you can also find a link to colleges where you might be able to study.

To work as a graphic designer you don't need any qualification however it is very important in order to find a job easier that you enrol in a graphic design course. Find a good BA course, graphics related, in a good university or art school, there they will teach the basics, the software and in the last year you will have a great portfolio that you can show in the job interviews.
      Good luck!
