All British citizens require a Visa to enter Cuba. There are two currencies in widespread use in Cuba : the peso, and the convertible peso. The first currency is the standard currency used by ordinary Cuban citizens. It can be exchanged for US dollars at the rate of approximately 27 pesos to the dollar. With ordinary pesos, most of the basic necessities of life, such as simple food items, can be purchased. The range of goods on sale for pesos is limited, however, and shops offering luxury items, as well as hotels and restaurants, will usually require payment in convertible pesos. Convertible pesos can be bought at the rate of 1 per US dollar. Prospective visitors should also note that, on leaving Cuba, each person will be required to pay a 'departure tax' of 25 convertible pesos per person.
