You mean the baby is breech -- yes this is very common at 31-32 weeks pregnant.

First-time mothers, the baby usually turns to being head down by 34 weeks. If the baby of a first-time mother hasn't turned head down by 37 weeks it is not very likely to turn later, though.

For women in their second or later pregnancy the baby often doesn't turn until the last 4 weeks of pregnancy. Not until labour itself, even.

If the baby does not turn by itself you may be offered a medical procedure to attempt to turn it, from about 36 weeks pregnant. This carries an approximate 1% risk of placental rupture, which would mean immediate emergency C-section.

The conventional medical view at the moment is that breech babies should not be delivered vaginally (although this is controversial, read more).

Usual advice for preggo women trying to persuade a breech bubba to turn on his own, is to get your bottom on the bed and your hands on the floor, Do this several times a day for as long as you can tolerate it -- in theory the baby will find more room to turn during this maneuver and also that going head down is more comfortable.

    Good luck.
