There are three main types of rocks, and so are their formation.

    1. Sedimentary rocks are formed by pebbles of the other rocks carried by air or water channel.
    2. Metamorphic rocks are created by heat and pressure.
    3. Igneous rocks are formed by volcanic erruptions

Yea, the three mains types of rock formation are igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks.
Igneous rocks are formed as magma from volcanoes comes to the earths surface and cools, forming rocks.
Sedimentary rocks are rocks created from particles of sediment either deposited from the air, ice, water etc. The sediment builds up into layers, then over time is compacted together by extreme heat and pressure, forming rocks.
Metamorphic rocks are rocks that have changed under heat or pressure from one type of rock to another.
