Summer camps do not permit staff member to consume alcohol on camp grounds and the vast majority also place very strict limitations on smoking, if they permitt it at all. Both the consumption of alcoholic beverages and smoking is inappropriate in front of campers and is almost never accepted.
Some camps do provide some exceptions in terms of smoking. Smokers are usually asked to keep their cigarettes, lighters and matches at the camp office, where they may collect them if they wish to smoke. Additionally, camps that do permit smoking will usually designate a small area, which is off limits to children, where staff members may go to smoke. Campers would not normally even know of this location at all. Camps also often ask staff members who smoke on a regular basis to make a note of this on their initial registration form and they may be asked to sign up on a smokers' list in order to be allowed to smoke while at camp.
