How Big Is Kielder Reservoir?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The size of a reservoir is measured by the capacity of water it holds and on that parameter Kielder Reservoir is the largest in the United Kingdom. It holds two hundred billion litres of water and has the shoreline of 27.5 miles.

The reservoir is a man-made one and is located in Northumberland area in the region of North East England. Its name came from the forest called Kielder and is the surrounding the reservoir. It is also the largest man-made forest in Europe.

The reservoir was planed in the 1960s to support the forthcoming rise in demand for water for booming economy of the UK. But because of the advent of more water efficient methods, the reservoir became redundant. In recent years, the authorities have found ways to use the reservoir more efficiently and give the region of North East England with plenty of water.
