In most countries there are laws that forbid employers from discrimination against employees or potential ones on the grounds that the person in question had filed for bankruptcy in the past.

Today many employers check the credit history of candidates before hiring them to ensure whether they are responsible in matters of handling personal finance. This practice though not commonplace is more often seen in jobs involving making high level decisions, handling money or any precious objects and involving confidentiality and trust on the part of the employee and a bankruptcy record may not find favor in these circumstances.

Also one may find employment in most jobs related to the government excepting those involving defense and military matters. The general notion in these matters is that the employer would prefer employees without any financial arrears which might involve them in the future; employees are more likely to check whether a candidate has a criminal record like issuance of bounced checks and so on rather than whether he had applied for bankruptcy.
