Clifton is a name originating from the term “cliffside settlement.” Clifton is famous as an industrial city in the Passaic county, north-east part of New Jersey. The place is a haven for steel, plastic, clothing, chemical and electronic industries. Clifton along with Patterson and Passaic formed the part of the Acquackanonk Township, which was incorporated in the year 1693. Clifton remained the part of the township till the year 1917.
According to the reports put forth by the US 2000 census, the city has a population of 78,672. The Hispanic and the Latin race comprise almost 20 percent of the population. The city is also home to Albanian, Turkish and Ukrainian refugees. Apart from the Hispanics and the Latin inhabitants, one can also witness Irish, Polish, Iranian, Italian, Chinese and Indians flourishing and doing well for themselves in Clifton The Clifton High School is distinguished for its marching band “The Showband of the Northeast", the world over.
