A bibliography is an acknowledgement of the sources that were used to create or publish a piece of work. This could be in the form of books, journals, Cd-roms, videos etc. A bibliography is very important from a legal perspective because somebody could pass off someone else's work as his own. This is where a bibliography comes handy which ensures credit is given where it is due.

The MLA (Modern Language Association) style of writing is the most common form of writing citations or bibliographies. Any bibliography should contain the author's name, title of the piece, page number of the page that has been referred to, publisher, place of publication and date of publication. Bibliographies are generally in alphabetical order. Bibliography formats will differ when it pertains to videos, websites and other forms of media. There are times when the sources end up being more important than the primary piece.
