Nephelium is the name of a genus of dicotyledonous trees. These trees belong to the family Sapindaceae and are the natives of Asia and Africa. There are about 25 species of trees in the genus Nephelium. They are all flowering plants and are evergreen trees. They have pinnately compound leaves and bear edible fruits.
The Rambutan is an example of a tree or plant that falls under this genus. This plant is known for its fruit which has commercial value. This genus is closely related with the Litchi plant. Rambutan is also known as Nephelium lappaceum. The fruits of this tree are oval shaped and are red coloured with soft spines. The genus nephelium also consists of several tropical trees.
