Where Is Ooze Found?

Ooze is the name of a sediments or deposits that are found at the bottom of the ocean floor. It is fine-grained and soft in nature. It is composed of biological things like decaying microscopic organisms like foraminifera, diatoms and radiolarians. Thus it is formed by the shell fragments and remains of small marine organisms. These biological things constitute of 30% of ooze while the rest is made up of clay. Thus ooze is a type of marine sediment.

Oozes are pelagic in nature and can be either carbonate or siliceous. Carbonate oozes have calcium carbonate in the form of mineral calcite and aragonite at times. Oozes are very soft and can be deformed with a finger unlike hard sediments made of limestone which can be formed into rocks.
