How Can Parents Help There Child Develop There Gross Motor Skills?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

There are many fun things to do.  Get a ball that fits your child's hands and help your child learn how to roll it between the two of you.  Teach them how to toss it and catch it.  If you have a larger ball they can start practicing kicking it and then running and kicking it.  A large rubber ball (such as the kind people exercise with)  are fun to learn balancing on.  They can lay on it on their stomach and try to keep their arms and legs out to the sides.  Other forms of exercise will also help gross motor skills.  Balancing on one foot and then the other, jumping jacks, etc.  Clapping in rhythm is a good skill to practice.  Anything that teaches coordination and uses the whole body.  Fine motor skills will include activities such as tracing, coloring, cutting, etc.
