Triskadephobia is the fear of the number 13. It is in almost every culture around the world. As I told one person the other day, I saw a documentary a very long time ago in which they described this as one of the reasons. You see the number 13, move the 3 to the top of the number 1, then rotate the 3 from vertical to horizontal. It looks like the devil's pitchfork.
Anything connected to the number was chided, people believed that  this number was deceptive and deceitful and could not be trusted because it was connected to the devil, and was meant to lure you away from God.
There were no scientific studies to disprove this in that time, because science wasn't a part of their lives yet. Hence the fear and superstitions. Hope this is an entertaining insight.
