Lilies are basically belongings of New Zeeland. They are mulched with snow and even grown inside for cool weather if your lilies are grown in a well-drained positions its okay otherwise a raised bed or sloping positions are recommended. Lily bulbs are best left in chilly weather and do not need to be lifted except in very cold climates when there is not a lot of snow cover but probably chill breezes are flowing through. Lilies can become excellent cut flowers but cutting your oriental lily will reduce the bulb's potential vigor the next season or blossom good lilies. When cutting of your oriental lily at least leave one third leave stem on the plant.

Remember no pulling Always break the plant through friction. The stems rather than cutting, as the cutting instrument can possibly pass on viruses and diseases from one lily to the next. As commercial flower growers need to cut the whole stem and these bulbs are more likely to be infected by viruses because of the cutting and knobbing process. So enjoy your oriental lily the way it is rather than making appropriations and then accepting the weak bulbs to flow from your healthy plant.
