During a change of state the temperature does not increase.

also some scientists believe that if you carry on heating a gas it will eventually turn into a plasma which is ionised gas and is sometimes classed as the 4th state of matter.

You must first understand there are 3 states in which you will generally find matter. They  are liquid, solid, and gas. These are called PHASES, when you change state of phase you might heat solid ice and cause the ice to change phase to water. This is one example. Or you might heat a liquid and change phase to vapor. Or you might compress a gas and form a liquid.

A change in the state of matter for which a substance is in, compared to whichever state it was in.  For example, water changes its' state when we either boil or freeze it.
