Elvis Presley, considered one of the greatest musicians of all time, came into this world at about 4:35 am on January 8, 1935. He was born in a two-room shotgun house situated in Tupelo, Mississippi. His mother Gladys Love Smith was a sewing machine operator while his father Vernon Presley was a truck driver. Presley had a twin brother named Jesse Garon Presley who was stillborn.
Thus his parents were extremely protective of him as the only surviving child. He was exceptionally close to his mother Gladys and she in turn was incredibly close to and protective of him. Even during his teenage years he was very shy in nature.
He grew up to be one of the most famous and loved American musician, singer and actor, frequently known just as Elvis. He was also given the title "The King of Rock 'n' Roll" or often simply "The King". He is the 20th Century's most talked about as well as written about performer.
