Overall there are some areas in which certain criteria are set that gauge the eligibility of a dog to be included in the Imperial Shih Tzu breed. Specially in the areas of length and weight, these qualify as verily vital dimensions when it comes to categorizing dogs in the Shih Tzu standard category or the Shih Tzu imperial category.

For both male and female dogs, the weight criterion is less than 8.5 pounds, although the ideal weight of the Imperial Shih Tzu breed of dogs ranges between four to seven pounds. However any dogs that weight above 9 pounds are disqualified from the category of the Imperial Shih Tzu breed of dogs. Next comes the area of length, where the Imperial Shih Tzu breed should measure less than 8.5 inches at the top of the shoulder. Henceforth any dog measuring more than 9 inches at the top of the shoulder would be disqualified from the Imperial Shih Tzu breed.
