Changing a drive letter for a new hard or old hard drive is very easy. If you are using Windows 2000 or later versions of Windows such as XP or Vista, it is possible to change the drive letter. To change the drive letter, open the 'Control Panel' option in my computer and enter 'Administrative Tools'. You will see a number of options there. Select 'Computer Management'. In that window, you will find an option which says 'Disk Management'. There you will see all the drives that are currently installed on your computer. You can change any of the drive letters to any letter you want from A to Z.
In case you want to change the letter of a drive to something that already exists on your computer, the trick is to first change the letter of the second drive to anything else and then selecting the second drive's letter to the first drive.

Well hard drive partitioning requires some steps which are easy but require little bit practice. Steps are as follows:
1. First of all assemble your hard drive into computer.
2. Then put the operating system bootable CD, and restart your system.
3. Then give the "fdisk "command in the dos prompt, which will make partitions.
4. Press 1 to create the logical partition.
5. Then again, a menu will be open, so select 2 for the creation of extended DOS partition.
6. After that there will come another option menu, which will ask to use all existing size of the drive, so press N.
7. Specify the size of the 2nd partition.
8. Specify the new name of the newly made partition, then press enter, and then another menu for the partition will be open.
9. Then after that create the partitions as much you like with the same procedure given above in step 5 to step 8.
10. Then after creating all the partitions, format all the recently made partitions, via giving the format command i.e " format c: /s/u ", just like this format command apply this command to all other drives.
And just restart your computer, and install your desired operating system.
