Can You Tell Me Who The Main Characters Are In 'The Wind And The Willows'?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The are a few main animal characters in 'The Wind in the Willows', and they are:

Mole - he is a mild-mannered, home-loving animal, and the first character that the reader is introduced to. Mole isn't too keen on riverside life to begin with, but then he adapts to it.

Ratty - he is relaxed and friendly. He looks after Mole and loves the river.

Mr. Toad - Mr Toad is owner of Toad Hall, and is the richest character. He is good-natured, but self-satisfied and impulsive. He has a series of obsessive interests, such as houseboating, punting and horse-drawn carriages. He eventually grows bored of these and discovers motor-cars, and ends up being imprisoned for theft and dangerous-driving. Several chapters of the book are dedicated to Mr. Toad's escape from prison, dressed as a washer-woman. His friends help him out of his criminal habits and win back Toad Hall, which was stolen by the weasels and stoats.

Mr. Badger - he is a kind, but isolated figure who 'simply hates society'. He is wise, and has common sense.
