Folklore in Britain is full of the rich tradtions of England, Scotland and Wales. That of Ireland deserves it's own study
The study of folklore as we know it know began in the C19 as a response to what was happening with regards to national identity.

Folklore covers all aspects of life. Beliefs, superstitions, medicine, fairy folk, spirits, natural world, plants, animals, songs, music, events, people and the unexplained., each culture has it's own folklore but sometimes similar threads can be seen to appear in many cultures.

Individuals  such as King Arthur, Robin Hood and Jack of the Green, may have no real basis in history but the folk memory of oral traditions passed on for centuries gas become embedded in the folklore surrounding these and many other characters. Plants, herbs and trees have a wealth of folklore surrounding them.
The Folklore Society is well worth joining and many courses are run on folklore throughout the UK. It is a rich part of our heritage.
