The Federal Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) is your authority on the subject. The I9 form is the document that employers use to document that their hired employees are eligible to work legally in the US. Em[ployers verify the documents, fill out the form, and retain it. Here is the site you need on the web to print out a copy. www.uscis.gov

By the way, employers may (and should) ask potential employees during the interview process if they are eligible to work legally in the US. Hopefully, that answer is affirmative from the candidate. The employer may then extend an offer of employment contingent upon receiving the proof that the employee is indeed legally eligible to work in the US. Wait until after the interview and employment offer to request documentation and actually to fill out the I9.

I hope this helps you. Good luck!
