What Is Washington DC If It Is Not A State?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Washington DC is has not been granted the stature of a state in the United States of America. In fact, it has been granted an even greater stature, that is, of being the capital city of the United Sates of America. It is basically the American capital city. The acronym 'DC' following the noun Washington is simply a short form of the term 'District of Columbia', the federal district in which the city is situated.

The city, as the name suggests, is christened after the first ever President of the United States of America, as well as the man who led the armed forces to victory at the time of the American Revolution, George Washington.

The District of Columbia and Washington DC are coextensive and fall under the rule of the same municipal government.
