    Asti is a city and commune in Italy. It is located in the Piemonte or Piedmont region. The Piemonte region is located in the northwest of Italy. It is located at a distance of about 80 kilometres east of Turin. It is situated in the plain of the River Tarano. It is the capital of the province of Asti. Asti covers a total area of 151 square kilometres. It has a population of 73, 434. The density of population is approximately 468 persons per square kilometre.

    It is a major centre of production of wine. Some of the finest varieties of wines that trace their origins to vineyards in Asti include the famous Barolo variety, the Asti Spumante (simply known as the Asti), the Moscato d'Asti, the Barbera d'Asti, the Fresia d'Asti, the Grignolino d'Asti, the Bonarda and the Ruche di Castagnole Monferrato. The famous Douja d'Or is a famous week-long annual exhibition of wine, which attracts a large number of connoisseurs of fine wine.
