What Was The Play "Timon Of Athens" By William Shakespeare All About?

Answer Question

Though this play is ascribed as being Shakespeare's work, this fact is at times debated by scholars as they feel that several people might have contributed to it. The story of the play centres on the eccentricity of one Athenian misanthrope Timon. This gentleman in the beginning of the play throws a banquet and calls all the people he considers to be his friends.

Then he literally gives away every thing that belongs to him. This has been going on for some time and all his wealth is now over despite his loyal servant's (Flavius) attempts to save him. When his creditors make a showing Timon's friend the philosopher Apemantus attacks them. Timon sends his servants to seek the help of his friends to conquer his problem but nobody comes forth to assist him. He throws another party later for those friends who abandoned him, insults them and leaves. He starts to inhabit a cave where he eats roots but soon discovers a treasure trove. Most of this new wealth he gives to Alciabiades to invade the city and dies soon after.
