What Is The Swedish National Anthem?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Sweden is a country that is located in Europe. There is no official National Anthem of Sweden as the constitution has no room for it. However, there is a song that is known and sung around the country and is almost close to national anthem. That is why that song is often considered as the defacto national anthem of Sweden.

This song is titled in Swedish as "Du Gamla, Du Fria". This can be translated in English as "Thou Ancient, Thou Free". It was written by Richard Dybeck in the year 1844 and the musical arrangement was made by Edvin Kallstenius. This song was later expanded by Louise Ahlen in the year 1910 who added two more verses to it. It must be noted that this song was never officially adopted.
