What Are The Factors That Make Different Eye Colours?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

There are 46 genes in the body cells that are the major determinants in telling what a baby would look like when he/she grows up.  23 of the genes are inherited by the baby from his mother while the other half of genes of the child are granted to him by his father.  Few of these genes are the factors behind determining the eye colour.

All pairs of eyes have a blue pigment but some of the pairs also have other colour pigments like green, grey, brown or hazel.  On some instances people have eye colours which are partly blue and partly of any other colour like brown or green or violet.  When two of these blue-eyed people would have a baby, only the series of their blue-pigment genes are going to be passed on to the baby, making the baby have purely blue eyes.  As for when people with different coloured eyes have a baby, the pigment having the greater amount of genes is going to be the dominant one and hence the baby's eyes are going to be the colour of the dominant pigment.
