How Do I Find A Good Home?
I know there is a lot out there but how would I know which one is right one for me?

Everybody has their own idea of what a 'good' home is. So your first step would be to make a list of all of the requirements that you are looking for. For example, do you want to live in a certain area? Would you prefer 1,2 or 3 bedrooms? Do you want a large garden? You really need to think of everything you would like in a home and then you can go to an estate agents or look in your local property paper to see what is available.
When you actually go to look around the house, pay attention to every little detail. You need to know that the home is stable with very little faults. Look for signs of damp, mold and anything that is broken. It is not always easy to see faults at first glance which is why you really have to look at everything. That is basically how you find the best home for you.

Fill it with lots of love!
And consider how long you want to live there and what life events you think will happen in the home while you are there. Will you be married? Have children? Have a home-based business? Entertain guests often?
What kind of climate do you prefer? And consider weather patterns. Look for a house that suits the weather profile. For example, you might not want a brick house in earthquake territory!
And consider where would be the best neighbourhood in which these events take place. Check census reports and internet sites like www.homegain.com for help on what the areas "look like" and what kind of growth is expected there.
With sites like Google Earth, you can "see" the whole world. Happy house hunting!

In addition to looking at the basic requirements of a home, you want to look at the neighborhood and surrounding area as well. If you have children, how are the schools? Is there grocery shopping nearby? What are your hobbies, do you have close access to things you like to do. Even a house that's perfect will soon make you miserable if you are too far from friends, family or the things you love. What about your commute to work?
I would also check with the police for the areas you look at, they should have a neighborhood liaison that can give you statistics about what kinds and how often crime occurs. Crime will happen everywhere, but 15 drive by shootings is different than the occasional loud party call.
I would suggest you work with an real estate agent, ask your friends and family for a referral. They can narrow down your choices, preview properties that could sound great on paper but really be terrible in person, make the paperwork easier, and if you are buying or renting, it's FREE for you!

After you've done all the research suggested by these great answers and start looking at homes, pay attention to your gut feelings when you first walk into a house. Does it feel warm and welcoming or cold and impersonal? Do you immediately start planning where your furniture would go? Do you feel comfortable with the floor plan, or does it feel "off" as you walk through the house? When you go home, do you find yourself already decorating it in your mind? Let your heart tell you when it's the right house.
I once let my ex talk me into a house I just didn't feel comfortable with. I spent 6 years in a home I never liked, and no matter how I decorated & changed things I still didn't like it. Don't make my mistake!
Good luck with your house-hunting - I hope you find the home of your dreams and live happily ever after!
