A debenture is defined as a long term debt instrument which is used by government and large corporations to obtain funds from public. It is similar to bonds. Whereas a share is a unit of account for various instruments like stocks, mutual funds, limited partnerships etc. Debentures and Shares are essentially different items of investment and they can not be converted into each other.
