The disadvantages of SLR cameras are:
- They are heavier than other cameras like the rangefinder, compact and digital cameras. Because they have pentaprism in them.
- The mirror box of the SLR cameras is also an obstacle in taking rear images therefore this result in poor performance.
- The viewfinder is blacked out when the image is taken
- You have to move the mirror and this consumes the time. This also limits the shooting time.
- The mirror of SLR is also noisy and produces some vibrations as well.
- To avoid noise and vibration SLR uses the mirror lock up but its draw back is that the viewfinder is totally blacked out.
- Live view is not displayed on LCD (liquid color display).
- You do not have movie modes in SLR cameras.
- As SLR has a complex technology they have higher prices than other compact cameras.
- Actually SLR cameras are for professional use and do not meant for casual usage.
- The lens is movable and this allows dirt and other dust particles to enter into the main body of the camera. As a result of this the movement is jammed.
- The dust not only jams the mirror, it also affects the lens.
